Sing. Sang. Sung.

If you really love songs in general, why don’t you try to learn English with them? Let’s have a look to a traditional and iconic songs from the UK.
From lots of songs made by musicians ever, I would put my attention on this one: “The drunken sailor”.

“The drunken sailor”, as you can see, is a traditional song from the 19th century. The authorship and the origin are unknown. This song is a “sea shanty”, a sailor’s song, that they sang while they were fishing whales.
Enjoy with the interesting pronunciation that the song has and try to guess the lyrics.

Take your boat, take a pint of stout in your hand and sing this traditional song with other sailors. Let’s do it!

Christmas is just around the corner!

Christmas is only one month away! Have you already thought about giving someone the Christmas they've been dreaming of? John Lewis has! Department stores are always so altruistic...

REAL LOVE

All my little plans and schemes
lost like some forgotten dreams.
Seems that all I really was doing
was waiting for you.

Just like little girls and boys
playing with their little toys.
Seems like all they really were doing
was waiting for love.

Don't need to be alone.

It's real love, it's real.

REMEMBRANCE DAY 11th NOVEMBER

POPPIES DAY

In Flanders Fields by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

                                                                      Lest we forget!

Remembrance Day is on 11th of November.
It is a special day when Brits wear a red poppy in memory of all those men and women who sacrificed their lives for their country and were killed during war conflicts.

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice, on 11th November 1918, to signal the end of World War One.
At that time the day was known as Armistice Day but was renamed Remembrance Day after the end of World War Two.
Today Remembrance Sunday was held,  the second Sunday in November, the nearest to the 11th November. At 11am on each Remembrance Sunday a two minute silence is observed at war memorials and other public spaces across the UK.

national ceremony took place in London. The Queen placed a wreath at the Cenotaph. Special services were also held at war memorials and churches all over Britain.

THANKSGIVING DAY

Thanksgiving  is a  holiday in the USA and  Canada when people give thanks.
It is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of November in the USA and on the second Monday of October in Canada.
Nowadays the Thanksgiving holiday is a four-day holiday over the weekend. Families and friends usually eat a special meal together (usually with a turkey as the main dish). This meal also usually includes mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, several casseroles, and stuffing. The food eaten today for Thanksgiving is very different from the food that was eaten at the First Thanksgiving in 1621.
