A relative clause is defining when you need the information it provides.
On the other
hand, some relative clauses are not used to define or identify the
preceding noun but to give extra information about it.
ometimes
the pronoun can be omitted. But only when the pronoun is the object of
the relative clause. In the following sentence the pronoun that can be
left out is enclosed in between brackets.
Do you know the girl (who/whom) he is talking to?
